Malaysia: Convergence with International Financial Reporting Standards IFRS in 2012
books_wince.jpgTo facilitate a phased changeover to IFRS, the effective date for applying FRS 139 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement will be 1 January 2010. By 2012, all approved accounting standards applicable to entities other than private entities will converge fully with IFRS. This convergence plan will not affect private entities that are currently applying the Private Entity Reporting Standards (PERS).

Industrial commodity prices are expected to weaken in the second half of 2008
still_life_wince.jpgIn 2009 we continue to expect a more marked downturn in the average price of industrial raw material prices. Demand is forecast to remain relatively subdued in the OECD economies as the rehabilitation of household balance sheets continues. Moreover, stocks will have accumulated and supply should be greater and more predictable, with the caveat that the risk of unplanned delays in bringing new supply on stream tilts the balance of risks to the upside of our price forecasts.

Joint ministerial committee on Iskandar Malaysia holds 3rd meeting

iskandar_malaysia_wince.jpgThey noted the efforts made to ease cross-border traffic, the exemption of certain transportation regulation requirements and increased recognition of national motor vehicle regulations by both countries. A statement issued by Malaysia's Economic Planning Unit and Singapore's National Development Ministry said progress has also been made in joint tourism promotion efforts, and in the development of a river cleaning action plan.

  • Life Malaysia : Official EC tally - Anwar got 31,195 votes, Arif Shah, 15,524, Hanafi, 92. Anwar won with a majority of 15,671.

    Anwar's wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, won the seat with a 13,388 majority at the March 8 general elections.

    The official voter turnout was 81.1 percent, or 47,410 out of 58,459 registered voters - which was much higher than what the EC had stated earlier. There were 599 spoilt votes.
  • Life Malaysia : 8pm: Unofficial: Anwar Ibrahim is the winner, obtaining a majority of 16,210 votes. He garnered 26,646 votes while Arif Shah Arif Omar got 10,436. His wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, won the seat with a 13,400 majority in the March 8 general election.
  • Life Malaysia : PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim is to hold a press conference at his by-election headquarters at Yayasan Aman at 9pm tonight. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will also be holding a press conference at about the same time.
  • Life Malaysia : 6.55pm: Counting in all 25 polling stations is now underway. From inside sources, Anwar is leading in all voting streams. Votes are being counted simultaneously in all the polling stations with the results to be sent to the main counting centre for the final tally.
  • mylivingwall : Election Commission Secretary (SPR) says 65.25% voter turnout in Permatang Pauh by-election today, compared with 81.8% in March 8 polls.
