BMCI closed at 1,388.50 down 4.42 pts in line with regional weakness and lack of fresh news in the local bourse. Local business news, The MOF (Ministry of Finance) approved DRB- Hicom to sell its 20.2% stake in EON Capital Bhd (EONCAP) to Primus Pacific Partners, a Hong Kong investment company at RM9.95. DRB-Hicom is set to make a RM1.34 billion from the sales proceed and will use it to cut its debt and fund working capital.

BMCI closed at 1,405.4 up 22.05 pts following European and Asia equity markets rebounded on technology companies, carmakers and banks. Local business new, Energy, Water and Communications Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik said Malaysia has approved the transfer of Time dotcom’s 3G licence to the country’s smallest mobile phone operator Digi.Com in exchange for the latter’s 27.5 million new shares and is expected to be completed by June this year.

BMCI closed at 1,383.35 up 28.87 pts after the US Federal Reserve lower its feds fund by quarter to 3.5%. Local business new, Malaysia ’s annual inflation hit a 10-month high in December, driven by costlier food and transport, but economists say the authorities will be slow to raise interest rates as the global outlook weakens. CPI in December were 2.4 per cent higher than a year earlier, the strongest pace since a 3.1 per cent increase in February.

Local business new, Second Finance Minister, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop has announced a 5.8 per cent dividend for the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for 2007, higher than the 5.1 per cent in 2006.

Local business news, Second Finance Minister Nor Mohd Yakcop said the country was on track to achieve the government’s forecast of 6-6.5% growth for 2008 and has no plans to roll out extra fiscal stimulus for the economy.

Local business news, Megasteel Sdn Bhd, a 90% owned subsidiary of Lion Corporation Bhd (Lion Corp) will proceed with its RM36.1 million legal suit against Perwaja Steel Sdn Bhd after the Court of Appeal allowed its appeal for an injunction against the latter.
