Charity sales- Donation in cash & kind requested

Beautiful Gate Kepong Centre is having a charity sales on July 26, Saturday, 10am-2pm, at Kompleks Desa, Kepong, to raise funds for Centre's operational cost & daily expenses, which is about RM6,000 per month.

Donation in cash and in kind are welcomed. 100 volunteers are needed to help to manage 30 food stalls, 5 games stalls, and coloring contest, setting up & cleaning, please response to bgcentre@yahoo. com if you could help up .

Seri Kembangan: Arts & Culture at 1948 Artspace

Build bridges between art/ artists and the residents of Seri Kembangan may, in the long term, enable the following:

1. the artists to understand the environment of the village and concerns of the residents, and begin to engage with these concerns and issues;

2. the residents to understand art as a medium of expressing thoughts, emotions and ideas, and begin to explore using art as a medium for expressing their own interests and concerns.

USA For Students

USA For Students http://www.usaforstudents.org is a US Education Fair to be held on 14th June 10am to 4pm at Wisma MCA.

This Education Fair is co-organized by Discover US Education, US Embassy, MACEE and American Universities Alumni Malaysia (AUAM).

There would be 51 US Universities participating, as well as another 20 student-related organizations on US there.

Workshop on Participative and Community Art Practices: Exploring Methodologies
at 1948 Artspace, Malaysia


2 sessions:
Session 1: Thurs 21 Aug, 7.30 pm
Session 2: Thurs 4 Sept, 7.30 pm


This workshop will open up disucssions on participative and community art practices, focusing on site-specific issues, choices and strategies in engaging communities. Participants are invited to share their processes of engagement and negotiations with each project's context and communities. Participants will also discuss how to evaluate each project in order to evolve models for future practices.


Presenters for Session 1:


1. Sabina Arokiam
Sabina will present and discuss 2 community theatre projects, involving persons living with HIV/AIDS and Burmese refugees, aimed at educating and spreading awareness on HIV/AIDS.
 
Sabina is a community worker who is interested in finding sustainable ways to engage and empower communities through art.


2. Jay Koh
Jay will present and discuss X-PO, a project that took place in rural Ireland, which consisted of an art intervention to awaken the imagination of the residents within a small community to be creative and proactive in organising their cultural and heritage resources, producing art and cultural programmes that engages with the community's past, present, and future.
 
Jay Koh is an artist who takes on multifaceted roles in order to negotiate with social-political structures on site and conceives of appropriate actions in response to local needs and contexts where he works. Presently he is running projects in Ireland, Vietnam, Mongolia, in addition to Myanmar, where his activities are now sustained for over 10 years.


3. Yeoh Lean Heng
Yeoh will present and a 'kampung anak seni' project in Kampung Berembang in Indonesia.
 
Yeoh is the founder of Lost Generation space, which has been very active in organising and running socially engaged events and projects in Malaysia. He is the curator of the Notthatbalai Art Festival.
